3 Myths and Stereotypes of Bisexuality
1- "To be bisexual, you have to be 50/50". I hate this one a lot and I get it a lot but it simply isn't true. You can heavily weigh either side. Someone can be 90% attracted to men and 10% attracted to women and still be bisexual. Or in my case, vice versa. Another fact about not just bisexuality, but sexuality in general, it can be fluid. It can change. Some days I feel more attracted to one gender than the other. It has also changed from when I was younger. It is always changing. However, I will never be straight. There will always be that side of me and the simple fact of my bisexuality is never going to change. I will always be bisexual no matter which way I "lean".
2- "So you are 'half' straight then?" SO many things wrong with this. Bisexuals who are 50/50 aren't half straight or half gay. There is no such thing as "partially gay" or "partially straight". Sexuality is a common misunderstood topic and some people aren't educated enough to comprehend it. Bisexuals are not straight. If a bisexual girl (or boy) is with a girl, they are bisexual. If a bisexual girl (or boy) is with a guy, they are bisexual.
3- "Bisexuals don't like trans men and women". This one is especially bad but I think mostly it is just because people don't know or understand this side to bisexuality. Bisexual and pansexual can be similar but there are a few differences. Pansexuality is attraction to all people regardless of gender. Bisexuals don't "not like" genders other than female or male. Bisexuality is the attraction of a variation of genders, whatever they may be. Bisexuals can still experience romantic or sexual attraction to trans folk and all genders in between. It's not that they dislike other genders, it's all about how you feel, it's not about rules and standards. Everyone is different and no two bi or pan folks experience the same things. It can be different for everyone even those of the same sexuality. You define it for yourself..
